The worries of a mum about to sleep train her 7MO

WHAT SEVEN-MONTH-OLD BENJI'S MUM SAYS, NOW SHE IS ABOUT TO SLEEP TRAIN HIM:

"Yes I'll be honest I am dreading it, but I know it's a necessary evil.

I've been following the dieticians advice already in preparation & he's been taking on lots of foods as well as formula from a cup.

I plan to start it tomorrow. I'm worried.

The main reason I am so nervous, is I tried sleep training before with my eldest son, and it was horrific.

I'm afraid, he would cry all night, in a solid block of 5+ hours. Literally fighting sleep. I did this for 3 weeks and it didn't work.

So this time I thought I'd get some expert advice. I've read the plan and I feel I am as prepared as I can be.

Artie, my eldest is staying at my mother in laws for a night or two, so I at least am under no pressure as far as it upsetting him.

It's such a hard thing to do.

If Benji's waking was less extreme I wouldn't even consider it as I don't have a problem with getting up to him a few times a night. But we've got to a ridiculous level with no sign of improvement.

Wish me luck."

Current sleep plan...

...Is for a little boy that is 7 months old called Benji.

Benji was a good sleeper, but had a cardiac operation at 3 months of age.

Failure to gain weight meant his mum was advised to breast feed him all through the night.

This got them into a terrible rut & now mum currently co-sleeps with Benji latched on most (literally most) of the night, which is really taking it's toll on her, and her relationships.

Mum has also resorted to driving Benji around in the car to get him to sleep. (This is not uncommon).

Mum has had appointments since to say that Benji's heart is doing well, but he will need further procedures next year, and a valve replacement too at some point.

A recent dietician appointment told mum that Benji is doing well enough now with feeding and his weight gain, to begin sleep training. A sleep plan for the two of them is currently being produced.

It is time to get Bethany some help.

To get her life back to where it should be.

That mummy needs some sleep!
